I sell carbonaria and hockingsi bees in boxes. The boxes are built with an entrance at the very top of the top box, so that you can easily see the bees coming and going, and what they do with their pollen inside the hive. The top inspection panel looks straight down on the brood chamber, where you can see all the delicate activities of the Queen and nurse bees. These boxes are built by a trusted craftsman to exact specifications. Like many boxes in the industry they are built from QLD hoop pine which is a lightweight wood with good insulation properties. The boxes are carefully prepared and sealed from the elements. Boxes are 28cm x 20cm (OATH dimensions), and have acrylic splitting plates for trouble free division of colonies. Each hive has a honey super as the bottom (basement) box, which allows easy harvesting of honey.
Price:
Hive with bees $450
Roof $40
Stainless Steel stand $50
Empty box $200
I sometimes sell discs of Tetragonula carbonaria brood with queen cells. Brood can be used in a variety of ways. It can save a queen-less colony by providing a virgin queen. Brood can also be used to stimulate an “eduction” hive to install a queen and create an individual colony. (read about eduction in the information page)
Brood:
$50 per disk, with 1000 worker cells, and at least one queen cell.
Availability: Usually not available in winter
