I sell carbonaria and hockingsi bees in boxes. The boxes are built with an entrance at the very top of the top box, so that you can easily see the bees coming and going, and what they do with their pollen inside the hive. The top inspection panel looks straight down on the brood chamber, where you can see all the delicate activities of the Queen and nurse bees. Boxes are 28cm x 20cm (OATH dimensions), and have acrylic splitting plates for trouble free division of colonies. Each hive has a honey super as the bottom (basement) box, which allows easy harvesting of honey.
Price:
Hive with bees $500
Roof $40
Stainless Steel stand $50
These boxes are built by a trusted craftsman to exact specifications. Like many boxes in the industry they are built from QLD hoop pine which is a lightweight wood with good insulation properties. The boxes are carefully prepared and sealed from the elements. Each hive has a honey super which allows easy harvesting of honey.

I have "Non Standard" hives that don't match my normal stock.
The first hive is carbonaria in a Western Red Cedar hive. It's a square box with two levels. Never split in 8 years, very mature and heavy Would be a good mother hive for eductions, or a great hive if you just want one for your deck or garden.
Tower hive / Observation hive. This carbonaria hive has been unsplit for about 6 years. I built his hive based on a "Jatai" Brazilian box. Much copied and adapted, tall "Tower" hives are now becoming quite popular in Australia.

This hive is very dry in our current wet conditions. There is a generous 10cm overhang at the front and back, making this the ultimate roof for rain or sun.
